Ooled leather belt with a well-known saddle and harness makers mark on verso of buckle: KEYSTON BROS. The set consists of an engraved floral foliate design buckle with rope edge border marked as above. A matched pair of keeps and a tacked-into-place end tip simply hallmarked: STERLING. This is a very fine older American silver set remaining on the original stamped/carved leather strip of two-tone (black and brown) floral foliate design, the whole to be described as Western-Rancho. The 1 3/8 wide leather strip is of purist cut, done up right, splayed leather insert to hold the’swivel’ bar, turned back and stiched; the keeps securely stitched into their position; and the end tip fixed with a fine nail head tack. The leather strip is’good’ and sound, full grain leather, no layering of flimsy material, and if the length is right – you’re in business (maybe do a leather conditioner, or not). The wear length as it is ranges from 35″ to 39″. If you need’re-do’ on wear length – an accomplished boot repair guy could make It happen with the original leather strip. Overall it is in very good condition with wear of course the buckle parts are perfect… Sourced from a San Leandro silver collection beyond this I have no specific history – based on the information I was able to find it is very likely a pre-1940 piece and is the nicest of the lot of the’ranger’ type buckles from this source. Buckle: measures 1 1/2″ squared, Keeps: a pair, measure 3/4″ x 7/16″ x 1/4″; and the end tip: measure 1 1/6″ x 5//8+”. All elements are sewn into place or tacked, none are readily removable from the leather strip to weigh – so a total combined weight of leather and metal is equal to 162 g on a digital scale prior to packing. Please review images for your take on age, design and condition. No later than 1940 they offered standout accessories, not unlike this buckle set on the original leather strip… It’s nice.
